Marinara sauce (Italian for mariner's sauce) is an Italian red sauce usually made with tomatoes, onions, garlic, herbs and spices.
Being half Italian, my children and I love pasta. In this recipe, I have added meatballs to my Marinara Sauce and combined it with pasta.

5. When finished simmering, puree until smooth - if desired.
Meatballs
Ingredients:
1 x pack mince meat
1 x onion, finely chopped
1 x teaspoon garlic, crushed
1 x tablespoon mixed herbs, dried
3 x tablespoons breadcrumbs
2 x eggs, beaten
Flour
Oil
Method:
In a bowl mix the mince meat, onion, garlic, herbs and bread crumbs.
Add the eggs
Form the mixture into round balls.
Dust with flour
Fry the meatballs in hot oil until brown.
Tips:
· For the Marinara Meatball recipe, I didn’t fry them. I simply popped them in the tomato sauce and let them cook for 20 mins.
· You can add different things to the meatballs – i.e.: chilli
· Ensure the meatballs are formed into tight balls or they will fall apart
· Ensure you use hot oil when frying or they will fall apart
Hey Mandi! this looks delicious! just a quick question.. what is passata?.. (sorry.. I'm greek and this doesn't sound like anything I know!!)
ReplyDelete(I'm making them meatballs tomorrow!!)yum!! :)
Hi Zoe, my apologies for the delay in getting back to you but I haven't been very well. Passata is pureed tomatoes. You can use chopped and / or fresh. I prefer a smooth sauce so use Passata instead. Hope that is ok? Thank you so much for your comment and I hope you enjoyed it. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Mandi
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed looking through your recipes.. and I am also recognised for my spaghetti meatballs... and found another method for the lazy chef to make the sauce.. put 4/5 skinned tomatoes, 1 box passata, 100 mls cold water, 1 crumbed chicken oxo, a handful of frozen peppers, a handful of either fresh or frozen chopped mushrooms, half a teaspoon dried basil, half a teaspoon dried parsley, about 8 whole pepper corns, two dashes Jamaican hot pepper sauce and a half cup of dried onion and 3 teaspoons lazy garlic into a pan, bring it to the boil, add your meatballs and simmer for 40 mins... it is quick, easy and delish! It is great if you are on a diet because if you use the lowest fat mince it amounts to very few calories. I freeze my over ripe tomatoes and when I make a sauce skin them by dropping them into boiling water - and have used. them when I never had passatta.
